Exceeding the Standard is a Revolutionary, Evolutionary Beginning Band Method crafted to assist the beginning band musician in gaining the techniques, skills and knowledge necessary to achieve lasting success and pleasure through a rewarding performance experience in a concert band setting.
Exceeding the Standard unlike other band methods, starts with crotchets (quarter notes), and the most easily achieved note to start on for each instrument hence, the first full piece is in simple Harmony with rhythmic variation to facilitate counting, tone production and ensemble development.
Exceeding The Standard has revolutionised the modern band method by introducing QR codes for play-a-long Solo, Sectional & Band parts. This evolutionary approach makes home practise and member retention a reality.

ETS’s revolutionary methodology introduces Full Band Harmony in the very first piece. Playing & hearing harmony is one of the most natural aspects of music which allows for greater intonation and tuning facility to be achieved at a faster rate than unison playing.
Accidentals are introduced as notes, NOT as accessories to the note. This helps the beginner to learn the notes & concepts faster than other methods.
